Rewind

Okay, I got a little ahead of myself with the move and all. Luke and I went on a fishing trip in May with some friends before we moved from AK. The first night we stayed at the military resort in Seward since we had reservations in the AM to go on one of their fishing boats. We woke up at 6 am or some awful time like that and it was freezing cold. Guess there is no better way to wake up than throwing on frozen clothes to go out in the freezing wind and waters. But hey, we were too excited about fishing to worry about that (I was wearing 8 layers and was still cold). They had said earlier that the waters were very rough and they may have to cancel it but they put us on the boat and we headed out. The drive out to the fishing spot is like 3 and a half hours long and it is extremely loud and very stinky, the only part of the fishing that we dread. So we were about an hour and a half out and they whipped the boat around and told us the waters were too bad and we had to turn around. WHAT!! I know, three hours on that boat for NOTHING. We were so bummed but we found a charter that took us out the next day. We limited out on halibut and got skunked on king salmon. Here is our catch....

No, we did not catch the big one, Luke's friend Matt did but Luke caught the one to the right of it.
We tried fishing in the river for silvers but it was too early, I guess they were swimming later this year.

The charters will take the fish guts and throw them down on the shore to be washed back in the ocean or eaten by animals. So minus all the nasty fish guts it was awesome because I have never seen so many eagles in my entire life than what I did here. Luke and Matt were back at the camp site drinking beers so his son Jake and I decided to go check out the feeding. I was amazed how close we were able to get to the eagles.

And Jake, well I kept thinking how pissed his Mom was going to be because I let him climb up this dirt wall thing and sit just a few feet from an eagle who was obviously not intimidated by him. I could not believe he got so close I would be freaking out and maybe even crying out of fear for being so close to such a huge bird with gigantic talons. The courage of kids!
The eagle was just as big as him, I am still in disbelief!
So of course we got back and showed Luke and Jake's Dad the pictures and they did not believe us at first but then thought it was cool and wanted to go back the next day. Unfortunately it was a once in a life time opportunity but Luke still got pretty close.
On our way back to Fairbanks from the trip we witnessed dip-netting. These people stand in the water with a long net and catch fish, it looked like fun but with getting skunked on fishing pretty much the whole time we decided to pass.
